Message From jl

Hi Everyone!

With any luck, this should be the last newsletter I ever write! After nearly eleven years of doing this weekly, and two of those years with a second weekly ezine, on a different subject, it's about time I get to pack it in.

That's assuming, of course, I don't crash the dang blog when it's finished. I'm perfectly capable of doing that. I know Chuck will be holding his breath all week!

I'm all excited - even about seeing November. October is usually one of my favorite months but, I gotta tell ya, this October sucked.

First we had a cancer scare in the family. I don't know WHY those doctors have to scare the hell out of everybody before they even know what they're looking at.

What they told my brother looked like lung cancer turned out to be nothing but a piece of FAT! I kid you not! FAT!

Since he scared the crap outta me with a piece of fat, I'll never let him live it down. FAT! We have to laugh about it, since we lost another brother to Multiple Myeloma 12 years ago. Too scary to do anything else!

Then, we had that Sidewiki PITA all through October. While I was trying to deal with that, my computer decided to slow to a crawl. It took weeks to figure it out and fix it. There's nothing more irritating than a snail computer when you're trying to work fast - or even work.

Those are just a couple of things that have slowed us down getting the new blog functional. I couldn't get around to doing what I needed to do for Chuck so he could set it up.

When you have to restart your computer every half hour, well ... This thing is lucky it didn't end up in the lake!

Speaking of the Blog

Wow - I have NEVER had so many responses to a question from readers as I had last week in asking your opinion on what to include in the blog. It took me all week to answer them. I can't tell you how much I appreciated your input!

I may even put some of your responses ON the blog. Such compliments! Nothing like putting me under pressure!

It was unanimous - I don't have to turn into a quasi-journalist. I get to stay my ol' crabby self and treat you with funnies to make up for it.

Because I know I tend to complicate things, and because Chuck, as a major techie, does the same thing, we're doing everything in our power to keep it simple.

I'm planning to use it next week - even if it isn't completely finished. It will, at least, be workable and, then, I may have some more questions for you.

I also want to warn you now ... Once we have the blog going, I am going to ask all subscribers (except iCop members) to RE-validate your subscriptions. That notice will come from Mail-List.com.

Speaking of Crabby

You have NO idea how much self-control I'm exercising this week. I'm going on a rant next week that may be the mother of them all!

I'm just beside myself with fury, and I'm betting all iCop members will be, too. But, I need to do a bit more research on this piece of pond scum before I let loose on him.

And, I DEFINITELY want THIS on the blog!

New FTC Rules in Advertising

A couple of weeks ago, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) came out with new rules on advertising for online business owners. I didn't say too much about it, at the time, although I did give you a couple of links to check it out for yourselves.

There was a reason for that.

Some of these new rules are goofier than I first thought. At least one seems impossible to comply with. They also require that you ALWAYS use an Electronic Signature Script to prove that YOU complied with their demands.

Not being a lawyer, I didn't want to try to interpret them for you and get it wrong. God forbid I ever be wrong. Smile

I was also waiting on something I knew would be forthcoming that would solve the problem. Since the deadline for everyone to be in compliance with these rules is December 1, 2009, I'm delighted I didn't have to wait long.

I have used AutoWebLaw Pro for YEARS. I LOVE it. It's a program, written by an attorney, that provides (with fill in the blanks for your own company) every online business legal form and document you could ever need.

I've seen products consisting of a few to a dozen documents, for twice the cost - and more! Over 60 important forms, disclaimers, disclosures, and contracts in AutoWebLaw Pro are designed specifically for online businesses PLUS the six (6) NEW documents just added to address this new round of FTC requirements.

The cost is extremely reasonable! I haven't had to visit an attorney, at several hundred dollars per hour, since I started using AWLP. And, after reading legal documents for years, I know a good contract, etc. when I see it.

The package now even comes with a GREAT Electronic Signature Script - one of the new requirements!

And, here's the best news. Even though I was waiting to mention this until it was updated, AutoWebLaw Pro is designed to pull its Data directly from their servers.

This means, once you own it, whenever you open your copy of AutoWebLaw, it's automatically ALWAYS up to date with any and all new upgrades and documentation! New compliance documents are always added. No additional fees! You can't beat that with a stick.

You are soon going to see new compliance documents all over the Web. But, you won't know who wrote them. Did an attorney write them, or did the site owners do it themselves? And, did they understand the new (or, any) legal requirements when they did it?

If you're going to be in business on the Web, believe me when I tell you - you NEED this product. And, you especially need it right now. You have until December 1, 2009 to be in compliance!

Wrap it UP

Going to wrap this up for, well, the century. Next week, you'll receive an announcement and a link for the new blog. Wish me luck - I always need it!

Have a fabulous week and ... keep on keepin' on!

Leaving You With a Smile

"Country Perspective"

When you're from the country you look at things a little differently ...

A Tennessee farmer got in his pickup and drove to a neighboring farm and knocked at the door. A young boy, about 9, opened the door.

"Is your Dad home?" the rancher asked.

"No sir, he isn't," the boy replied. "He went into town."

"Well," said the rancher, "Is your Mother here?"

"No sir, she's not here either. She went into town with Dad."

"How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?"

"No sir, he went with Mom and Dad."

The rancher stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other and mumbling to himself.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" the boy asked politely. "I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one. Or maybe I could take a message for Dad."

"Well," said the farmer uncomfortably, "I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It's about your brother Howard getting my daughter, Susie, pregnant."

The boy considered for a moment. "You would have to talk to Pa about that," he finally conceded. "If it helps you any, I know that Pa charges $500 for the bull and $50 for the hog, but I really don't know how much he gets for Howard."
